Lord, You are my refuge and my fortress. I come to You tonight asking You to cover me and the people I love. There is so much I cannot control: the other drivers on the highway, the news I cannot stop reading, the places my family goes when I am not with them.
Watch over my home tonight. Guard the doors and the windows and the people sleeping inside. Be with the ones I love who are traveling, working late, or far away. Keep them safe on the roads and in the air, at work and at school.
Protect my mind as well as my body. Guard me from fear that turns into panic, from temptations that would lead me away from You, and from words and influences that would harm my heart. Where I am careless, make me wise. Where I am afraid, make me brave.
I choose to dwell in Your shelter and rest under Your shadow. I do not ask for a life with no trouble, but for Your presence in every trouble. You are my God, and in You I will trust. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
