Lord, thank You for my spouse. Thank You for the person who knows how I take my coffee and still stays when I am short-tempered at the end of a long day. I do not always say it, but I am grateful for the life we are building.
You know where we are right now. You know the conversation we keep avoiding, the chores that turn into arguments, the evenings we sit in the same room on separate screens. Draw us back toward each other. Help me listen before I answer, and help me soften my voice when I want to win.
Where there is hurt between us, begin healing it. Give me the humility to say I am sorry first, and the grace to forgive without keeping score. Protect us from the slow drift that happens when we stop paying attention, and from anything that would pull our hearts away from each other.
Be the third strand in our cord, Father. Let our home be a place of kindness, laughter and honest words. Teach us to pray together, even if it is just a few sentences before bed. Help us love each other the way You love us, patiently and on purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Ecclesiastes 4:12 (KJV)
