Lord, before I open my email today, I want to start with You. You know what is waiting for me: the deadline I am behind on, the meeting I am nervous about, the coworker who wears on my patience. You know the parts of this job I love and the parts I only endure.
Help me work with a whole heart, as if I were doing it for You, because I am. Give me focus when I am tempted to drift and energy when the afternoon drags. Let me do honest work, the kind I would not be ashamed for anyone to see.
Give me patience with the people around me. Let me be the one who is kind in a tense room, who gives credit freely and keeps a confidence. When I am treated unfairly, help me respond with wisdom instead of bitterness. If it is time for a change, open the right door and give me the courage to walk through it.
Establish the work of my hands, Father. Let something I do today make someone's load lighter. And when the day is over, help me leave work at work and come home present to the people I love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”
Psalm 90:17 (KJV)
